Further Along The Road: The Documentary Kickstarter

Category : Blog

Well, its time. We just launched our Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds we need to finish filming and editing Further Along the Road: The Documentary.

I wrote a detailed (but non-technical) post about what the funds will go to on the Further Along The Road blog here.

But here is the more technical stuff:

The current HDD I have is a 3TB HDD, and it is full. I’ve optimized the footage from the road, and in order to be able optimized most of it, I had to actually delete the unoptimized versions (Some can’t even be optimized, but we are out of room!). On top of a few clips left to optimize, we have a MINIMUM of 4 hours of footage (will probably end up being closer 6-8 hours) that we have to film still, the import/optimize and edit, plus music, titles, export and render files that we need space for.

So I’d like to get an 8TB HDD so I can optimize the remaining clips, and have room for all the extra stuff we will need to add. But then we need a backup. If the hard drive I have goes down, we lose all the notes, tags, and organizing I’ve done, and while that would suck, it wouldn’t be disastrous. But once we start editing and doing the interviews, we can’t afford to lose drives.

For the interviews to sound good, we’re going to need to get a better mic, and we’ll need to get 2 of them. I’m looking to get Rode NTG-2‘s, they are great quality, and professional quality. I already have the equipment for that audio to be able to go into my camera, we just need the mics.

New Camera

Well, through a really good deal on Amazon, along with some MAJOR rearranging of my budget, I was blessed with the ability to buy a Rebel t4i to help improve my photo shoots and video shoots. It arrived on Wednesday night, and needless to say, the past 2 days have been picture central as my now semi-annoyed friends can now attest. But I’ve been playing and learning a lot about it and am really excited to see what I can do with the features and tools available to me now. You can see pictures below of the shenanigans I put my friends through. Not all of the pictures are the best, but as I said, it was the first 2 days and they were a lot of fun to take. There are more pictures after the break.

That being said, I am pleased to announce that FlyTraffic Media is now offering Senior Pics, Prom or Dance pictures, family portraits, and other special photos as a service I provide! I do not, at this time, offer wedding pictures, I am not ready for that yet, but if you are photographer and are looking for a second or third photographer to help with weddings, I would be more than happy to offer my services.

The Hobbit Movie Review

First off, can I just say that this movie was phenomenal. Peter Jackson is brilliant, weaving a tale that stays true to the book, and yet is entertaining and cinematically beautiful.

The high frame rate in IMAX was stunning. It made you feel like you were sitting there, almost a part of the story. Like you were looking through a window as the scene unfolded before you.

The acting was phenomenal. Martin Freeman really captured the personality of Bilbo so well. The underlying excitement at adventure combined with a fear of leaving the comfortable. I don’t know if there was a better option for the role of Bilbo.

To sum up the entire experience, I would tell you to go see it in IMAX, it is worth every penny.

Further Along the Road: The Documentary Update

You guys remember Josh, who joined Cameron & Tyler on the second leg of their trip. Well, a long story short, the guys met a couple who is starting a ministry on their ranch, and offered to let the guys work there if they wanted jobs. Well, Josh took them up on it and went to live in California for a few months.

Well, he is home now, and so tonight, he joined us watching clips for the documentary. It was really good to have him here, get his perspective on events, and the thoughts are coming together.

We do have a bit more work to do now, I have to do his interview/story for the trailer, but once that’s done, we’ll just be waiting on Tyler to finish the soundtrack. I’m hoping, ideally, to have a trailer released by the end November, but the end of the year at the latest.

All in all, things are going well, and I’m really excited to see our hard work come to fruition.

Updates on Projects

If you’ve been following us on twitter (@FlyTrafficMedia) you already know that we’ve been working with Cameron Joseph on his debut EP Album (click the link for a 1 song sample, that song will be on the album, but redone & sounding even better!). It has been going wonderfully, and with only one song left for him to write, we should have an album name and a cover to release soon, so stay tuned for that!

Tyler and Cameron have been on vacation and busy with things the past few weeks, and I’ll be gone this week, so we’ll be picking back up on Further Along The Road Documentary when Cameron & I get back from our vacation. But the trailer is so close to release, we just have a few more clips to review, and a soundtrack to place with it, so *hopefully* we’ll have something out to you by the end of September.

I am starting to build a website for the church I used to work for, Gap Community Church, which I am really excited about, because when I worked there, I didn’t know much about building websites, and so as much as I hated their website (especially the back-end of it), there wasn’t much I could do about it at the time. Now I can, so I am really excited to get the opportunity to do what I couldn’t do before! I’ll be sure to post screen caps on here when it’s finished!

There are one or two other projects in the works, but I don’t have much info on them, nor are they definite yet, so I don’t want to say anything about them at this point, but definitely stay tuned for future updates!
